Sarah Steele Sibley Chapter, NSDAR, Welcomes You!

On behalf of the members of the Sarah Steele Sibley Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), we welcome you! Our chapter was organized in 2005 and our members come from the central Minnesota area.

We are a non-profit women’s service organization that values education, historic preservation, and patriotism.

About Our Chapter

Sarah Steele Sibley Chapter, NSDAR, is one of the Minnesota State Society Daughters of the American Revolution that was reorganized in 2005 with eight new members. Our chapter serves St. Cloud as well as many smaller communities within the Central Minnesota area.
Our chapter name honors Sarah Jane Steele Sibley, born February 8, 1823, in Steeleville, Pennsylvania. Upon completion of her education, she accompanied her brother Franklin Steele to Ft. Snelling. On May 2, 1843, Sarah wed local fur trader and future Governor of Minnesota Henry Hastings Sibley. As the Governor’s wife, Sarah led efforts in Minnesota to raise money for the restoration of George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate. This was the first historic preservation effort in the state and established the model that subsequent First Ladies have continued; namely, using a semi-official office for advocating a worthy public cause. Sarah’s legacy is a state with a strong commitment to the preservation of history, and a model of leadership.

Minnesota Daughters come from all over our great state, and beyond. They are young women who join to honor a family member, older women who enjoy genealogical research in their retirement years, professional women interested in connecting with other women in the community where they live, and others. Whatever your reason for joining, we invite you to connect, encourage you to apply, and welcome you to our organization.
